Skullcap reduces stress, anxiety and nervous tension and promotes inner calm.
Skullcap is especially effective for general excitability, restlessness,nervous twitching and nervous tension in dogs and cats. Unlike valerian and other sedatives, skullcap by itself does not cause drowsiness, or dull the reflexes or interfere with motor coordination. This makes it especially suitable for high strung cats and dogs who need to retain their survival reflexes outside the house.
Also great for dogs with thunderstorm and other noise phobias. Skullcap (Scutellaria laterifolia) is a sedative tonic herb with antispasmodic properties. It is used to control epilepsy in dogs as well as people, and it may help dogs who are sensitive to electrical fields. Skullcap tincture can be squirted into the sides of the mouth or given with food (5 to 10 drops for an average size dog) and repeat as needed. Additional a few drops can be massaged into the skin on the back of the neck.
